The American Pale Ale, or APA, is, as the name suggests, an American-made pale ale. Around 1980 they started experimenting in America with local hop varieties that added a very contemporary and unique character to their beers, giving the beer a different character than the classic English IPA, thus the name American Pale Ale was born.
